Don’t neglect your upper body training! No matter what sport you play.
You need it to be just as strong, explosive, and reactive as your lower body. I promise—getting stronger up top won’t hurt your performance. In fact, it’ll make you better.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard athletes worry that upper body training will somehow slow them down or make them worse at their sport. That’s just not true. If your training is smart and tailored to your sport, you’re only going to benefit.
Focus on improving the qualities that drive power and force production, and good things will happen. Adding dynamic movements will help your nervous system recruit more muscle fibers, which directly impacts strength, speed, and explosiveness.
