You’ll struggle to find two more experienced sports , or F1 photographers than Clive Mason and Darren Heath. Clive has covered the Olympics going back to Ancient Greek times , and still does it better than anyone. And Darren is a legend of Formula 1. If your subject is moving, USE. THE. VIEWFINDER. You’re only making it harder on yourself to compose an image, OR get sharp images using slow shutter speeds. There are very few times that professional sports/motorsports photographers aren’t using the viewfinder. Only when we have to put the camera on the ground, hold at a very strange angle, or way up above our heads. Using the viewfinder allows you to have better more precise control over what you’re pointing at, and how you compose the image. And a more balanced stable platform when you drop the shutter speeds. But don’t take my advice. Look at those who do it better, and have done it longer than you. Like these two legendary photographers. Want to see what a day / week in the life...
