Pubs will be allowed to serve drinks until 1am if England reach the quarter-finals, semi-finals or final of next summer’s World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico. Due to the scorching heat, many of the games next summer are set to played later on in the evening, when the temperature is not so high. This has led to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood proposing extended licensing hours in the UK. The proposed expansion would apply to licensed venues in England and Wales, though Craig Bellamy's side must still secure their place at the tournament via the play-offs.
