I am ashamed 😔 Growing up, my closest friends have always been girls, and now they are women. I am ashamed not because of the many strong women I have as friends, but because I was once embarrassed that they were my only friends. People in my church and school would say, “eh, why you only play with girls ah?” or have conversations with my parents like, “he only has female friends?” to which my dad would reply “he’s a ladies’ man.”... 🙄 As a kid, I felt there was something wrong with me. It felt so natural to dress Barbies up, play tea time with my sisters and female relatives, and twirl around in dance class with the other girls. It took some time for me to realise that societal expectations of “boys” are fked and that I should be darn proud to associate myself with powerful girly, feminine, and womanly energy.
