Baby of Brain-Dead Georgia Mom Still in NICU Fighting to Stay Alive Months After Delivery

#AdrianaSmith is still praying for a miracle. Her son, Chance, who was delivered four months after she was declared brain dead, remains in critical condition and won’t be coming home any time soon.
Adriana, a dedicated Atlanta nurse, was just eight weeks pregnant when she suffered a medical crisis earlier this year. Doctors found multiple blood clots in her brain, and she was declared brain dead in February. But because of Georgia’s strict abortion law that bans the procedure after six weeks, Adriana was kept on life support until her baby reached a point where doctors could deliver him.
On June 13, Chance came into the world weighing just 1 pound, 13 ounces. He’s spent every day since in the NICU. As of late November, his condition remains fragile.
