UC Berkeley alumna and animal rights activist Zoe Rosenberg was sentenced to 90 days in the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility on Wednesday afternoon. She will be eligible for jail alternatives for the final 60 days of her sentence, but was ordered to serve the first 30 days in jail. The court also ordered to pay restitution in $100k to Petaluma Poultry, which her legal team has already filed an appeal against. Following her sentence, Rosenberg will be on two years of supervised probation. In late October, Rosenberg was convicted of one felony conspiracy charge and three misdemeanor charges for her removal of four chickens from inside a truck at Perdue Farms’ Petaluma Poultry slaughterhouse in Sonoma County. Direct Action Everywhere, or DxE, the animal rights organization Rosenberg is affiliated with, alleged the incident was a “rescue” mission for the chickens, who now live at an animal sanctuary.
