Huge congratulations to our patient, Andrew Santos, recipient of this year’s Colin Powell Medal of Courage! Andrew took the stage at last night’s #Dreamfest Concert for ucsfchildrens to receive his award. At age 17, Andrew came to our #SanFrancisco hospital by helicopter after suffering an #AVM rupture and brain #aneurysm. He had #brainsurgery and spent the next three months with us relearning how to walk and talk. Each year on his birthday and over the holidays, Andrew (now 25) asks friends and family to contribute to his #UCSF game fund instead of giving him personal gifts, so he can donate games like UNO, Connect 4 and Jenga to our hospitalized patients! Congratulations, Andrew! ❤️
