When Abagail was a baby, doctors diagnosed her with FPIES, a rare food allergy that made it difficult for her to eat. She worked with feeding therapists until she was 4 years old. Still searching for answers, her family brought her to UCSF, where our team discovered she had celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder triggered by gluten. She began a strict gluten-free diet under Dr. Mala Setty's care. Unfortunately, Abagail still struggled, and further testing in 2019 revealed Crohn’s disease, a condition her mom also has. In January 2020, Abagail went on bowel rest and received nutrition through a feeding tube for 127 days.
