125 Series Finale | Bass River Golf Course Bass River's story began on July 2, 1900, when eight summer residents gathered in South Yarmouth to form a club with a simple, ambitious goal: to create a place for social connection, athletic exercise, and a golf course along the shores of the Bass River. What started as nine rough holes carved from a rented cow pasture would, decades later, become the region’s first municipal course when the Town of Yarmouth purchased it in 1953. It also nearly became part of the Cape Cod Canal, until plans shifted to Buzzards Bay creating the gateway to the Cape we recognize today. The river instead became the backdrop for the course’s signature par 3: a scenic carry over marshland that remains one of the most iconic public golf holes in the state.
