Meet Ray Solomon, Chief of Staff for the City of Detroit. For Ray Solomon, public service runs deep. Inspired by his parents, his mother a devoted schoolteacher and his father known as the godfather of serving Detroit, Ray learned early what it means to give back to the community that raised him. In his role, he helps guide departmental strategy and supports the teams that deliver essential services to residents every day. For Ray, serving Detroit means helping people who need it most, whether that is supporting a resident purchasing a lot for a community garden, removing abandoned cars, or cleaning alleys so neighborhoods feel safe. One project that stands out for Ray is Halloween in the D, a signature city event designed to reclaim the holiday for Detroit’s children as part of the City’s anti-arson efforts.
