Lumbala trial – another survivor takes the stand.
He described to the Paris Court of Assizes the circumstances that led to his father's death when militiamen called "Effaceurs" invaded Mambasa and committed numerous crimes.
When the Effacers took the city, the survivor and his family had taken refuge on the outskirts. A few days later, taking advantage of a lull in the fighting, his father had returned to the city center with other residents to retrieve food and personal belongings left in their homes.
He learned that on the way, the group was intercepted by Effacer fighters and taken before their leader. One of them managed to escape. The others, several of whom had confirmed that they were of Nande ethnicity, were tortured, mutilated, and then executed by gunfire. The next day, a Red Cross team buried them in a mass grave.
