Native American actress Elaine Miles, best known for her roles in “The Last of Us” and “Northern Exposure,” recently blasted ICE after she said she was stopped by ICE agents in Seattle who asked if she was Mexican and refused to accept her tribal identification, saying it looked “fake.” The 65-year-old actress, an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation in Oregon, told the Seattle Times that she’s now afraid to leave her home at night or alone. Indigenous civil rights attorney Gabe Galanda told the Times:
“They are being profiled based upon their skin color and their phenotype… It’s particularly hard to make sense of the federal government going after the original peoples of these lands under [the] guise of immigration enforcement,” Galanda said. “You should not have the original peoples of this country … for a second feeling uncomfortable about their own sense of belonging in this country. They belong here more than anybody else in this country.”...
