The winner of this year's Nobel Peace Prize was forced to miss the award ceremony in Norway after taking part in a daring secret operation to leave Venezuela. Maria Corina Machado, the country's most prominent opposition leader, was named at this year's winner of the prestigious international prize for her 'tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy'. Recipients are typically handed the award in Oslo in front of the King of Norway. But Machado was unable to attend as she was being smuggled out of her home nation amid fears that the authoritarian leader Nicolás Maduro would order her execution. Find out more at Daily Mail.
