When you’re trying to change a habit or do something new or different, it’s important to slow things down. To someone that is new to shooting, you may not notice this, but for someone that is more experienced, you may. I used to use my first finger on my left hand to cover the trigger guard to manage recoil. I learned this from Lena Miculek and I loved it because it helped me immensely when I was first using handguns. I am trying something different and pulling my first finger off the trigger guard but in doing so my left thumb is dropping down towards the trigger guard and I’m catching my left thumb dropping off the slide. Instead of just pulling the trigger and firing my rounds, I stopped and readjusted my thumb to rebuild the new position. After a couple times, you noticed that my thumb stays against the firearm and I fire off my rounds. I haven’t been to the range since March and to say that I’m rusty is an understatement.
