A highlight of our travels in Namibia with naturalselectiontravel was visiting the Himba Tribe! 🇳🇦
My son (3 years old) ran right over and started playing with the Himba kids. He got in trouble within 30 seconds. ☺️ Our daughter (5 months old) was well accepted by the Himba women. We played, took pictures, got a tour, and bought souvenirs. It’s a must-do in the Hoanib region of Namibia.
A fun fact: Every morning, the Himba women apply a red paste to their skin called otjize, a paste of butter, fat, and red ochre — sometimes scented with aromatic resin — that gives them a distinctive red hue. Our guide, also from the tribe, told us it was to protect their skin from the sun. Others say it’s like a makeup. They even put it in their hair. Abigail had it all over her after being held. ❤️
When you come to Africa one day, is visiting a local tribe something you would enjoy?👇🏼
