Collaboration makes beautiful music! 🎶 Drexel students in the College of Engineering (drexelengr), School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems (drexelbiomed), and Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design (drexelwestphal) have teamed up with Opera Philadelphia to create a new way of capturing the beauty of a song. The device, dubbed “Vox Ex Machina,” translates the pitch and volume of a singer’s performance into a work of visual art, and looks something like a CNC router (a computer-controlled cutting tool), but with an oversized foam swab instead of a bit.
