As the holiday shopping season arrives, 60 Minutes looks back at Morley Safer’s 1976 report on New York City’s Bloomingdale’s, known to locals as “Bloomies.” At the time, the Upper East Side was described as perhaps the largest congregation of upper-middle-class affluence anywhere in the world. “The people here are upbeat, self-consciously upbeat; upper everything - upper middle class, upwardly mobile and upper twenties in age. And if they aren’t really any of those things, they’re trying awfully hard to look like them all,” said Safer. #bloomingdales #shopping #uppereastside #ues #nyc
