Researcher Amanda Kloer says some Character AI chatbots had hypersexualized conversations with her when she posed as a 10-year-old student. Within about two hours, the bot – impersonating a 34-year-old art teacher – was suggesting “we’ll have this romantic relationship as long as you hide it from your parents,” says Kloer. “It's showering the child with compliments, telling them they can't tell their parents about things. This is sexual predator 101,” adds researcher Shelby Knox. There are currently no federal laws regulating the development or use of chatbots.
