Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has visited the frontline city of Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region, posting a video filmed near the city’s entrance sign. In the video shared on Telegram, Zelenskyy said he was visiting the Kupiansk sector and praised Ukrainian troops for their actions there.
“Much has been said by Russia about Kupiansk — we can see the reality,” he said.
On November 20, Russia’s Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov said Russian forces had taken Kupiansk, and on December 2 President Vladimir Putin said Ukrainian troops there were encircled.
Ukraine’s OSINT project DeepState reported on December 12 that Ukrainian forces launched a counteroffensive near Kupiansk and recaptured the city’s northwestern outskirts.
Ukrainian media say Zelenskyy recorded the video about one kilometre from Russian positions and around 500 metres from the grey zone.
