Less than a week after Hoover’s planning and zoning commission rejected their proposal, school leaders for the Islamic Academy of Alabama told the city that they were rescinding their application.
The planning and zoning commission issued its rejection, which is advisory, following a hearing where several residents said they didn’t want the Muslim school in their community.
The day after the hearing, Tuberville appeared on an Infowars podcast, to decry Islam and the school. He said there was no room for Muslims in Alabama and called the religion a cult that was a threat to America.
The Islamic Academy of Alabama, which has existed for nearly 30 years, sought to relocate from its current facility in Homewood to a larger, more modern building in a Hoover office park.
