Former Alabama quarterback and political newcomer AJ McCarron led five Republican candidates for lieutenant governor in fundraising in November.
Tuesday was the due date for monthly campaign finance reports with the secretary of state’s office. The McCarron campaign released a statement.
“When a newcomer and first time candidate raises more than $105,000 during the first month of his candidacy, it delivers a strong message of support and scares the heck out of the political insiders who created Montgomery’s good ol’ boy system,” it said.
Almost half of McCarron’s money came from Angus Cooper of Mobile, who gave $50,000. The rest came from about 45 contributions, mostly from individuals.
