Construction is underway in the small town of Orrville, which has a population around 150 residents, on its very first public library. The library has been in the works for years, with officials first breaking ground on the project in 2023 after Congresswoman Terri Sewell announced a half-million dollars in federal funding for the project. The library is being built right next to its town hall on Highway 22. The Dallas County town is hopeful construction will be finished by March 2026. Currently, the closest public library is in Selma, which is around 15 miles away. Orrville Mayor Louvenia Lumpkin said they’re hoping the new library can host classes in addition to providing books and internet access to the community.
