Darius Monterro Williams, 40, received a life sentence without parole for multiple violent robberies in Birmingham targeting Hispanics, including putting a gun to a toddler’s head. Williams was charged on five counts of first-degree robbery, two counts of second-degree kidnapping, and one county each of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and animal cruelty. Williams was sentenced to life without parole in each of the robbery convictions, 20 years on the kidnapping and gun convictions and one year for the animal cruelty conviction. Williams has multiple prior robbery convictions dating back to 2009 in Jefferson County and is currently serving a 15-year sentence in federal prison for gun charges related to the 2018 crime spree. All of the crimes happened on Aug. 22, 2018 in the Ensley area. The spree began about 7 a.m. that Saturday and concluded around 7 p.m. after a police chase.
