Auburn professors face no legal consequences for not turning in an anti-DEI law course compliance form, but it’s unclear if they could lose their jobs. A faculty senate meeting was held with the provost and general counsel Nov. 12 to answer lingering questions from professors about compliance forms sent to faculty on Oct. 31. SB 129 went into effect October 1, 2024. The law bans divisive concepts, diversity, equity and inclusion offices, programming and training in public colleges and other state agencies. Part of SB 129 states that schools can’t “require or compel students to adopt, affirm, assent to, or agree with divisive concepts.” Divisive concepts include color, religion, sex, ethnicity, or national origin. Public organizations can lose state funding if the law is violated.
