Joshua Van made history as the first Asian-born male UFC champion after capturing the flyweight title at UFC 323 in Las Vegas on Saturday. Van, nicknamed “The Fearless,” won by TKO just 26 seconds into Round 1 after Brazilian champion Alexandre Pantoja injured his arm during a takedown exchange.
Outside the cage, Van drew attention in June after buying a home for his mother following his knockout win at UFC 316, later explaining the purchase as motivation to keep pushing forward. After winning the title, Van thanked Jesus Christ and dedicated the moment to his mother while saying his championship would help the world recognize him and the people of Myanmar.
