Holtville Edges Central in Historic IVL Opener, 32–27 Thriller
On a historic Friday night at Birger Field, the Holtville Vikings made their Imperial Valley League debut one to remember — holding off the Central Spartans in a back-and-forth classic that came down to the final seconds.
Both teams traded blows all night, but with :32 left on the clock, sophomore Marcos Garcia came up with the play of the game — a clutch tackle on Central’s Junior Camarena at the six-yard line that sealed the 32–27 win for the Vikings.
Central’s Emiliano Morales was a bright spot on both sides of the ball, racking up long receptions of 58, 38, and 71 yards, while Matthew Lizaola punched in a short TD to finish one of Central’s best drives.
But the spotlight belonged to Holtville’s senior running back Enrique Armas, who exploded for over 300 rushing yards and two touchdowns, including the go-ahead 21-yard score with 2:29 remaining. QB Alonso Cuevas connected with Alan Carrillo for touchdown passes of 35...
