Where is this? ⤵️ 🌸 Every year on December 8th in Rome we celebrate the Immaculate Conception with the traditional flower decoration by the firefighters in Piazza Mignanelli, near Piazza di Spagna. The tradition is linked to the story of this column.. 
➡️ This monument was erected in 1856 by Pope Pius IX (the last pope-king) to celebrate the proclamation of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception. 🧑‍🚒 The papal authorities delegated the task of putting up the column and its statue to the firefighters. 🚒 It was a delicate operation. Thanks to a mechanism designed specifically for this purpose and to the 220 firefighters involved, the column was raised in 30 minutes, on December 8th, 1857 🙌 🪜Every year at 7 AM, since 1949, firefighters climb a crane 25 meters above the ground and place a wreath around Mary’s arm. 💐The Romans come too, and after the wreath is placed, everyone can hand over their flowers to the firefighters, who will then climb again and put more flowers on top of ...
