According to UNESCO’s World Trends in Freedom of Expression and Media Development Report 2022–2025, freedom of expression has declined by 10% worldwide since 2012, reaching levels not seen in decades. Equally alarming, self-censorship among journalists has increased by 63% over the same period — rising by approximately 5% every year.
