Stillman College and Tuskegee University are set to be the first two HBCUs with charter schools funded by Michael Bloomberg, through his new $20 million initiative.
-Michael Bloomberg is deepening his investment in historically Black colleges and universities with a new $20 million initiative to build K–12 charter schools directly on HBCU campuses. The program aimed at creating stronger pipelines into higher education will launch with two Alabama schools. Featuring the D.C. Wolfe Charter School near Tuskegee University and the I Dream Big Academy at Stillman College.
-Students will gain access to dual-enrollment courses and internship opportunities through their partner institutions. The effort, funded jointly by Bloomberg Philanthropies and City Fund, builds on Bloomberg’s previous support for HBCUs, including a $600 million donation to four HBCU medical schools in 2024. More charter–HBCU partnerships are expected across the South.
