Fed up with the joyful noise echoing from Whoville, the Grinch (Boris Karloff) gets the "wonderful, awful idea" to stop Christmas from coming altogether. He quickly stitches together a crude Santa Claus disguise and transforms his reluctant dog, Max, into a makeshift reindeer by tying a heavy horn to his head. With the illusion complete, the green curmudgeon launches his sleigh down the treacherous slopes of Mount Crumpit, racing toward the sleeping town below to carry out his heist.
