For over 20 years, survivors of the Second Congo War’s Operation “Effacer le Tableau” (Erasing the Board) waited for justice. Today, that wait is over. The Paris cour d’assises has convicted Roger Lumbala and sentenced him to 30 years in prison for complicity in crimes against humanity committed during the Second Congo War. This is the first time crimes committed during Erasing the Board Operation have ever been prosecuted. Twenty-five survivors bravely shared their stories in court—testimony that proved essential to this historic verdict. They described the devastating impact of Erasing the Board and its consequences that communities in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo still feel today. This verdict proves that justice delayed is not justice denied. #WageJustice #DRC #RDC #Lumbala
