Bodega cats, who work hard to keep New York City food shops purr-fectly pest-free, could soon be legalized in the city with Intro 1471, a bill that would update city health codes to officially allow cats in neighborhood bodegas. Introduced by NYC Council Member Keith Powers in November, the bill would additionally cover vaccines for cats as part of a free vaccination program as well as spay and neuter services to keep the stray and feral cat populations controlled. “This is a huge moment for bodega cats and the people who love them,” Dan Rimada, founder of the advocacy group Bodega Cats of New York, said. “These cats have always worked quietly behind the counter—now they’re finally getting the recognition and protection they deserve. I’m proud to be part of this step forward for New York City.” #BodegaCats #NewYorkCity #BodegaCatsOfNewYork #HLOG
