Salvadoran immigrant Kilmar Abrego Garcia has been released from a Pennsylvania immigration detention center after US district judge Paula Xinis ordered his release on Thursday, December 11 and issued another order preventing ICE from taking him back into custody on Friday, December 12. Abrego Garcia, who immigrated from El Salvador as a teenager and has been living undocumented in the U.S. ever since, has become a symbol against the Trump administration’s immigration policies since his wrongful deportation to El Salvador in March 2025.
