December 18th is National Twin Day! This day celebrates all the siblings who enjoy the unique connection of sharing a birthday. We are taking this day to set the record straight, Howard and Jared are not twins.
For today, Jared letterpress printed a hand carved woodcut and an electrotype (copy of the woodcut) from the Lewis Winter Collection. These cuts were made in the 1890s and depict the same image which would be used as accent borders for a print. This was printed with green rubber base ink using our Washington hand press, which was made in 1852.
Speaking of twins and Lewis Winter, Howard and Jared wear the same uniform and that uniform is based off of what Winter wore at his wood and photo engraving business at 627 J Street in Sacramento. He was in business from 1888 to 1910.
