“I started losing my eyesight because of a condition called Coats syndrome. Around the same time, my mom passed away after a long illness, and when doctors sent me for more tests, I was terrified and thought the worst. I lost a lot of confidence during that period. Eventually, I decided I had to challenge myself and try things I believed I couldn’t. A friend suggested rollerblading, and I said no, I only had vision in one eye. But when I finally tried it, something shifted. Most of the people in these photos are the people I skate with in Medellín. I met them in random places: under bridges, in the street, at skate parks. People judge those kinds of friendships, but they became my family. There’s something powerful about resilience here. We take difficult experiences and turn them into art. We support each other. And somehow, that makes life feel really beautiful.” — Mike Medellín, Colombia Life on Film #colombia #medellin #givingdisposablecamerastostrangers
