The iconic Anheuser-Busch neon sign we all know and love is coming down as the brewery closes after 75 years in operation. It will be relocated to the company’s Anheuser-Busch’s St. Louis headquarters, according to a spokesman for the company buying the property. The sign was a landmark for flights arriving and departing Newark Airport, as well as a beloved identifier welcoming people to New Jersey’s largest city.
DID YOU KNOW?
The current version of the sign uses 4,500 feet of neon tubing, equivalent to 15 football fields.
EWR air traffic controllers would tell helicopter pilots to look for the sign’s eagle as they approached the airport, according to the FAA.
The sign weighs a whopping 15 tons.
