As a devout Catholic, I often get pushback anytime I talk about something secular or imaginative. This comes down to personal discernment. Every family is different. If Elf on the Shelf does not serve your home, I fully respect that. Parents are called to lead their families thoughtfully, not copy one another. What I do not agree with is shaming other Christians, questioning their holiness, or speaking as if there is one authoritative stance on this. Imaginative, cultural traditions are not spiritual practices, and they do not compete with Christ when He is already the center. Faith is formed by what we intentionally teach, model, and prioritize. It is not undone by playful traditions that families choose with care.
