I’m a firm believer that our homes should be a reflection of who actually LIVES there! I designed this fireplace as a way to tell THE HOUGHTON FAMILY STORY! Each tile or plate was painted to commemorate a special event or moment in one of our lives! One tile is labeled “Commitment” and was painted to remind my children how they all went without sugar for a year to earn a go cart! One of the plates shows us all holding hands singing our Houghton Family Song, “It’s a great Day to be a Houghton.” Another tile is labeled “Kindness” and shows how my son spent months saving his money to buy a signed Maverick’s jersey and how in a moment handed it to a young girl who was crying because she didn’t get one. I think it is so important that we remind our children who they are and what truly matters in life. I hope every time we sit in front of this fireplace we are inspired to be just a little better!
