When you're an adoptive family, one thing you have to be patient with, is allowing your children the time to organically build a relationship and bond. Being careful not to force it or project your feelings off on to them about how you feel about the adoption versus how they actually feel. Even though Rick and I sat Zariyah down and processed with her our plans to foster and ultimately adopt, we did not want to move forward if she was not totally on board. Zariyah was 11, the only child, grandchild, niece and needless to say, spoiled!
