On this day in 2010: December 22: Barack Obama signed the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. The U.S military policy barred gay and lesbian people from serving openly. Introduced in 1993, the policy allowed LGBTQ+ people to serve only if they stayed silent about who they were. Being openly gay, or even suspected of being so, could lead to dismissal, the loss of a career, and the erasure of service. #BarackObama #LGBTQNews #DontAskDontTell
