CAP CRUNCH: The Devils have a cap problem. After activating Brett Pesce & Jack Hughes off long-term injured reserve this week as the team continues to get healthier, the Devils have found themselves in a cap hole with only $12,500 in available cap space at the moment - which does NOT including Evgenii Dadonov’s $1M or Jonathan Kovacevic’s $4M as they’re both on LTIR.
Here’s the dilemma…..Jonathan Kovacevic is skating. He’s going to be re-joining full practices soon and could be ready to play NHL games again and make his season debut within the next two weeks or so following knee surgery recovery.
One problem: the Devils do not have any cap room to activate Kovacevic onto the active roster as it stands whenever he would be ready to return. Of course one injury suffered by anybody in the next couple games could change this, but you’re not hoping this happens.
What in the world are the Devils going to do to fit Jonathan Kovacevic into this roster soon & be cap compliment? 😬
