On December 23, 1823, “A Visit from St. Nicholas” was first published in The Sentinel newspaper in Troy, New York. Although it was published anonymously in the newspaper, the poem was originally written by Clement C. Moore in 1822. This well-known Christmas story, first published 202 years ago today, is known more by its opening line than its original title. For today, Jared letterpress print the opening line, “‘Twas the night before Christmas.” This line was typeset in the 72 point Caslon font. This was printed with green rubber base ink using our Washington hand press. #onthisday #todayinhistory #typography #christmas #merrychristmas #happyholidays #twasthenightbeforechristmas #sachistorymuseum #letterpress #museum #sacramento #printing #printingpress #oldsacramento
