Meet West Virginia State Chair, Peyton Carpenter — a leader shaped by competition, community, and a deep commitment to growing the sport.
Peyton first stepped onto the platform in March 2022, eventually joining the West Virginia University Powerlifting Team, where he has served as a team officer for the past two years. Over the last three and a half years, he’s worn just about every hat in USAPL: lifter, team officer, State Referee, National Referee, and a dedicated spotter/loader at meets across WV and beyond. His path to State Chair was made possible with the support and mentorship of Wes Zunker and Lee Maccarone — guidance he continues to pay forward.
As State Chair, Peyton finds the most fulfillment in creating spaces where lifters and referees can grow, build confidence, and feel supported. From first-time competitors to seasoned officials, he values the relationships and shared experiences that make the powerlifting community unlike any other.
