On Friday morning, Taylor was one of 48 homeless people remembered at a memorial serve at the Chatt Foundation, a nonprofit that assists Chattanoogans living on the streets.
A bell resonated through the organization’s community center after each name was read. A choir sang “Amazing Grace” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly sat in the audience.
Meeting Taylor helped break down the stereotypes associated with homelessness and demystify how mental illness can reveal itself, West said. People are often afraid of those with schizophrenia, but Taylor was the nicest man West ever met.
