A nearby star just did something we’ve never seen before 💥 Astronomers using our XMM-Newton space telescope and @astron.nl’s LOFAR radio telescope on Earth have for the first time definitively detected an explosive coronal mass ejection beyond our Sun – a burst so powerful it could strip the atmosphere from any planet in its way. Why does this matter? Events like this help us understand space weather across the galaxy and what it means for the search for habitable worlds. When stars erupt, entire planets can be transformed. 📹 @europeanspaceagency 🎞️ ESA/@NASA/Proba-2/Proba-3/SOHO/SWAP/ASPIICS/LASCO C2, @creativecommons BY-SA 3.0 IGO; ESA; ASTRON; ESASky; J. R.
