I’m not a natural runner.
I’ve fought it my entire life and convinced myself “I’m just bad at it.”
The reality: I’ve never given it enough time and patience to get better.
So when I run, my brain is doing a lot.
As a Doctor of Physical Therapy, I’m constantly cueing:
• Fast, consistent cadence
• Smooth, controlled breathing
• Arm swing back (not across my body)
• Relaxed shoulders + tall posture
If running feels awkward or exhausting, it’s often not your fitness—it’s your mechanics. Running is a skill, not a personality trait.
You don’t need “runner genes” to run well and get better. You just need better cues.
