Join us in celebrating the first day of #Kwanzaa! ❤️🖤💚 Kwanzaa is a 7-day African-American and pan-African holiday which celebrates family, community, and culture. It was created in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga and the name Kwanzaa is derived from the phrase “matunda ya kwanza” which means “first fruits” in Swahili. There are Seven Principles of Kwanzaa, or Nguzo Saba, that help us to continue building and maintaining unified and empowered communities. On each of the seven nights, families gather to light one of the candles on the Kinara (candleholder) then one of the seven principles is discussed.
