Birthday cafes are a beloved part of South Korean pop culture, where fans transform cafes into themed pop-ups to celebrate the birthdays of K-pop idols, actors or even fictional characters. Around the birthday date, these spaces feature decorations, cup sleeves, merch, photo booths and freebies, turning the cafe into a fan-run celebration.
In a viral twist on the tradition, South Korea also has a birthday cafe for Jesus. Organized by Korea CCC, also known as Campus Crusade for Christ, the event reimagines Christian outreach through the familiar format of K-pop birthday cafes. Held around Christmas, the cafe includes themed merch, games, photo zones and even a life-size Jesus standee with a light stick, blending church culture with fandom aesthetics.
