More than 8 million New Yorkers have been mailed state inflation refund checks of up to $400, marking the end of the main disbursement of more than $2 billion of financial assistance sent to households across the state, officials said. Roughly 1.25 million Long Islanders were eligible for the checks, which were sent out to reimburse residents for heightened sales tax collection amid increased inflation, state officials said.
