Imagine me growing up and hearing everyone say that they wanted to be doctors, lawyers, teachers, and engineers, then sharing, “I really just want to be a wife and a mom.” So many horrified looks. People were baffled. My mom was a SAHM (and the best one ever, if I do say so myself), so I experienced firsthand the impact that having a parent stay home can have on a child’s upbringing. I got my college degree then went on to get a master’s degree so I would always have the option of working outside of the home if I ever wanted or needed to. But, for me right now, the choice is an easy one. Being able to stay home with my babies just like my mama did is an honor. Some days when I really wish I could have a break, I think it might be easier if I worked outside of the home. But, from what moms that do have shared with me, it’s just a different kind of hard. I feel so blessed that my dreams came true and I’m able to focus on the most rewarding (and challenging) job ever: raising children....
